Where the VIN number of the vehicle is located
The VIN is a permanent body marking that cannot be removed or replaced. Standard locations:
- Under the windscreen. On the driver's side panel, at the base of the pillar. The number is visible from the outside and can be read without opening the doors.
- In the driver's door opening. On a metal plate or sticker near the lock. Not only VIN, but also weight and engine type are indicated here.
- On the bonnet lid. In some models, the marking is applied to the inner surface of the bonnet.
- In the engine compartment. On the front shield or on the frame near the engine.
- Under the carpet or panelling. Especially on vehicles older than 10 years, the VIN may be duplicated under the seats or carpeting.

Decoding VIN history of a car
Each character of the VIN code has a meaning. The general structure is subject to the international standard and looks as follows:
1-3 characters (WMI) - World Manufacturer's Identifier. For example, W0L stands for Opel manufactured in Europe.
4-9 symbols (VDS) - technical parameters of the car: body type, engine, transmission, safety level. This data allows you to accurately determine the configuration.
10 symbol - model year. Alphabetic or numeric designations are used, depending on the factory.
11 symbol - code of the assembly plant.
12-17 symbols - serial number on the production line.
The check digit, located on the ninth position, serves to check the correctness of the entire combination. VIN decoding helps to detect falsifications, inconsistencies in the documents and forgeries of the PTS.

Buying a car from the Netherlands is a reasonable decision if you take into account the European quality of service and transparent history of operation. However, along with the benefits, there are risks: distorted information about the mileage, technical manipulations. Checking a car by VIN-code is the only way to detect such problems in advance.
