Advantages of a Smart inspection
Why to check the Smart VIN number with the decoder
Checking the Smart VIN is a simple and effective way to obtain complete information about a vehicle. This check is especially useful when purchasing a used Smart from a European car auction, as it allows you to:
- Find out the history of the car. Information about the number of owners, mileage, and involvement in accidents.
- Check legal compliance. Information about possible seizures, liens, or theft.
- Identify equipment discrepancies. Comparison of factory specifications with current data.
- Assess the condition of the car. Data on repairs and maintenance.
- Avoid fraud. The decoder helps to identify cases of VIN forgery or mileage tampering.

Where the Smart VIN number is located
Many people don't know where to find the VIN number on a Smart car. It can be found in several places:
- On the dashboard on the driver's side, under the windshield.
- On the driver's or passenger's door pillar.
- Under the carpet on the passenger side.
- In the glove compartment on a special plate.
- Under the hood, on the engine compartment partition or shock absorber mount.
- On the floor of the luggage compartment, next to the spare wheel (in some models).
- In the vehicle's technical documentation: technical passport, service book, or insurance policy.

Smart VIN decoding
Each character in the Smart VIN has its own meaning:
- WMI. The first three characters indicate the manufacturer (e.g., WME for Smart) and the country where the car was manufactured.
- VDS. The middle part of the code (4th to 8th characters) contains information about the body type, model, engine size, and transmission.
- Check digit. Verifies the correctness of the entered VIN.
- Year of manufacture. The tenth character encodes the model year.
- Identification number. The last characters indicate the unique serial number of the vehicle.
For the convenience of owners and buyers, there are online decoders that allow you to quickly and accurately decrypt the VIN code and get a detailed report.

This information is especially important for buyers in order to avoid hidden problems with the car and to ensure its legal compliance.
